Councillor Jonathan Coupe

 Mayor and Mayoress

Councillor Jonathan Coupe has represented Flixton Ward since 1999 and is very proud to follow in his late father’s footsteps in becoming Mayor of Trafford. The first father and son to represent the Borough as Mayor. 

In his time as a Councillor Jonathan has served on the Executive twice, as Member for the Environment and Member for Safe, Strong Communities. Jonathan has twice been a member of the Council's Scrutiny Committee (once as Chairman). He has also served on the Licensing and Planning Committees, more recently as Chairman of the Accounts and Audit Committee. Jonathan is the Chairman of Trafford's Armed Forces Covenant Committee and he is also on the Governing bodies of two Flixton primary schools. 

Jonathan has spent most of his working life in the home improvement industry and since 2001 has had his own fitted kitchen and bedroom business. 

Jonathan's main hobby is Amateur Dramatics both performing and directing. He has a passion for all sports, particularly football and Manchester United. He spent many years in junior football where he qualified as a referee. Jonathan is Vice President of AFC Urmston Meadowside. Jonathan is also President of Flixton Band.

The Alex Hulme Foundation, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Brain Tumour Research.

Mayoress - Mrs Diane Coupe

Diane has worked as a Teacher in Trafford for 32 years.  At the start of her career from September 1974 until taking a career break then resuming in September 1990, when she began teaching part time at Urmston Infant School, becoming full time in 1995. 

During the Mayoralty of Councillor Allan Coupe, her late father in law, in 1989/90 she had the privilege of sharing Mayoress duties with her sisters in law Diana and Lynne.  He was very proud to say he had three mayoresses!  

Diane enjoys spending time with the family, Jonathan's and her three children, their partners and four grandchildren. 

Diane's hobbies include reading, horse riding, Pilates and baking. She also enjoys watching most sport especially international competition.

Both the Mayor and Mayoress look forward to their year in office and representing and serving residents, organisations and groups in the Borough.
