This page explains how we use any information you give to us via our website, and the ways in which we protect your privacy.
In order to operate efficiently, Trafford Council has to collect and use information about people with whom it works. These may include members of the public, current, past and prospective employees, clients and customers, and suppliers. In addition it may be required by law to collect and use information in order to comply with the requirements of central government.
This personal information must be handled and dealt with properly, however it is collected, recorded and used, and whether it be on paper, in computer records or recorded by any other means. There are safeguards within data protection law to ensure this.
Trafford Council regards the lawful and correct treatment of personal information as very important to its successful operations and to maintaining confidence between the Council and those with whom it carries out business. The Council will ensure that it treats personal information lawfully and correctly.
To this end the Council fully endorses and adheres to the principles of data protection as set out in the General Data Protection Regulation.
The information that you provide us with or that is gathered automatically helps us to monitor our service and ensure that our web services are effective and useful.
We use leading technologies to safeguard your data, and keep strict security standards to prevent any unauthorised access to it. We do not pass on your details to any third party or government department.

What information do we collect?
We collect three kinds of information from visitors to www.trafford.gov.uk:

Person and enquiry Information
You do not have to register to use www.trafford.gov.uk, but particular parts of the site do require you to submit information including name, address and email address. In addition to this, some services require you to provide information relating to the enquiry or service being used.
At present, the areas of the website which collect this type of information are as follows:

We do not use this information to trace your identity and do not pass it on to any third party or government department.
We welcome your feedback. You can contact us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Enquiries relating to the Trafford website should be sent to email@example.com
If you send an email asking for information, we may need to contact other Council departments to find that information. If your question is technical, we may need to pass it to our IT section. We do not pass on any of your personal information when dealing with your enquiry, unless you have given us permission to do so. Once we have replied to you, we may keep a record of your messages for reference and audit purposes.
Site Usage Information
Cookies are pieces of data often created when you visit a website, and which are stored on your computer. A cookie is created when you visit www.trafford.gov.uk which stores a random number on your computer. We use this cookie to count the number of times users return to our site. Cookies are also used from time to time to facilitate some systems which transfer data between pages.
