Council Tax on empty properties
If your property is empty, you may have to pay more Council Tax. This is called an empty home premium.
The premium encourages owners to bring empty homes back into use to help reduce housing shortages.
You'll be charged a higher rate depending on how long the property has been empty.
Download the document below for a summary of our premiums on empty properties.
You can apply for an exception to the premium depending on your situation.
In some cases, you may not have to pay Council Tax at all if the property is empty.
Check if your empty property is exempt from Council Tax.
