Part of: Volunteer at the library

There are lots of ways to get involved with volunteering at Trafford libraries.

Library volunteer

As a library volunteer, you will support the Library and Digital Advisors in delivering our day-to-day activities and services, which might include:

  • Returning, sorting, shelving and straightening library books and other items of stock
  • Assisting customers using the library to find books/items they are looking for
  • Using the library computer systems to join new members and assist customers with their enquiries
  • Supporting customers to use our printing, photocopying and scanning services
  • Helping facilitate groups, such as Art Club and other ad-hoc activities and events by assisting in preparing materials and setting up rooms

Digital volunteer 

As a digital volunteer, you will support residents looking for digital support, either as an appointment or a drop-in service. This might look like:

  • Providing support to customers wanting to install and use the BorrowBox App to access Library e-Services, as well as access the internet and other online services
  • Assisting customers in setting up and using email
  • Helping customers with queries regarding their personal devices e.g. tablet, phone
  • Assisting customers in applying for services online e.g. Housing Benefit, Universal Credit
  • Aiding customers who need support with CVs, job searches and application forms to gain employment

Children and family volunteer

Responsibilities of a children and family volunteer might include:

  • Lead weekly Rhymetime and Storytime sessions for children aged 0-5 and their families (around 30 minutes per session)
  • Facilitating regular groups, e.g. Children’s Hour, Lego Club and Sensory Play
  • Assisting in facilitating other ad-hoc children and family activities/events on weekends, school holidays or other celebration dates

Read Easy

Read Easy is looking for people to get involved in the Local Management team. This is a chance to offer life-changing opportunities to local people who cannot read.

Shared Reading in Trafford

Shared Reading brings people together through great literature to talk, laugh and share. Supported by the Achieve BST Recovery Fund, The Reader is looking for volunteers to train and lead Shared Reading groups locally for people who are in recovery.

AgeUK

Help deliver books to those who aren't able to get to a library by volunteering for AgeUK's Home Library Service.
