Resident parking schemes

Overview

A resident parking scheme is where a resident in a specific area, street, estate or geographical location must apply to us for a permit to park their car, or the car of a visitor, in a designated space.

It may also be considered to include waiting restrictions, limited waiting places or a mixture.

There is no right to park on the highway, however there are often several residential areas that might benefit from the introduction of residents parking schemes.

In some of the areas the parking might prevent residents who have no off-street facility such as a forecourt, drive, garage etc. finding a parking space reasonably close to their home.

Traditional Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) are used to alleviate any access, road safety or environmental problems associated with high levels of parking. But they offer no priority to the residents affected. Both residents and non-residents would be equally affected by any such restrictions.

If you live in a residential parking scheme you can apply for a parking permit for:

  • annual permits
  • visitor vouchers
  • Carer permits
  • change of permit details
