The Refreshed Stretford Masterplan

The consultation is now closed. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time complete the survey or share their views and feedback via other channels. We will be updating everyone with any further developments here in January.

We love Stretford. It’s home to sporting superstars, outstanding schools and parks, and diverse communities who care about where they live. But we believe it has the potential to be even better.

The ‘Refreshed Stretford Masterplan’ contains proposals for ways in which we think we could revitalise the town, placing Stretford on the map, attracting investment and making it a great place to live, work and play for everyone. But this is YOUR place. So we need your views, thoughts and concerns on what you think will work, and what you think might not work so well. You can find information on the proposals below.

Article 4 Direction

On the 15 December 2017, we made an Article 4 Direction. This allows us to  limit residential properties in Trafford  being turned into Houses of Multiple Occupations (HMO’s).

The location for the student accommodation has not yet been agreed, however this application allows us to protect residential properties whilst we review the consultation feedback.

Latest updates, FAQs, documents and presentations

Several 'Have Your Say' events have now taken place, where local people have come along to find out more about our exciting plans to revitalise Stretford and the surrounding area. Below you can access all the relevant documents, reports and presentations that have been shared at these events.

Why a Refreshed Stretford Masterplan?

In early October, Trafford Council agreed to move ahead with ambitious and exciting plans to revitalise Stretford, and to start a consultation (and a conversation) with everyone over the ‘Refreshed Masterplan’ for Stretford.

Great progress has been made on the Masterplan for Stretford (2014) however the vacancy rate within the Town Centre remains high, and the redevelopment of a number of important sites has not taken place. Stretford needs a new approach and additional significant investment if it is to achieve its full potential.

The catalyst for updating the original Masterplan for Stretford (2014) is the University Academy ’92 (UA92) proposal, an innovative higher education facility in partnership with Gary Neville and the ‘Class of ‘92’, award-winning Lancaster University, the Council, Microsoft, Trafford College and Bruntwood. UA92 is set to create jobs, bring people and investment into the area and offer young people, both on the doorstep and further afield, a very different approach to higher education that will arm them with the skills crucial to becoming future leaders in sport, media and business. Crucially it will also potentially enhance the local economy by around £26 million per year.

The proposed main UA92 campus is the Kellogg's office on Talbot Road, which will include a new, modern, publicly-owned leisure centre operated by Trafford Leisure.

The revised plans will support further investment in the town centre and delivery of retail, food/drink and leisure uses, the revival of the Essoldo building for beneficial use by the whole community, high-quality student accommodation on the Lacy Street site, investment in Turn Moss playing fields, improvements to public spaces and the town centre generally and opportunities to develop several other sites.
