Local Energy Advice Partnership (LEAP)
LEAP (Local Energy Advice Programme) is a project that is running in Trafford. Energyworks Green Doctors are the delivery team for LEAP.
LEAP is a free service delivered to the home, and is offered to people of all tenures who are fuel poor or vulnerable. The eligibility criteria is quite broad and the majority of people do qualify for the service.
To qualify your household only needs to tick one bullet point in one of the criterias, you don't need to qualify under each category.
The Green Doctor visit covers a wide range of support, including but not limited to:
- a home health check
- fuel debt advice
- independent switching advice with switching service
- behaviour change advice (including damp, mould and condensation)
- money saving advice
During the visit the Green Doctor will go through a simple questionnaire which allows them to gain a better understanding of your home and energy behaviour. It also allows the Green Doctors to make suitable referrals to other outside agencies (with your permission) such as:
- a Safe and Well visit from the Fire Service
- Age UK
- local council services
- community groups
- Manchester CAB
Manchester CAB is a telephone Service that is offered to residents who would like a benefits check, help with debt, applying for white goods, support with energy bills etc.
Throughout the visit the Green Doctor will recommend small measures to you that will be beneficial in reducing your energy bills. If you agree, free measures will be fitted before the end of the visit. These measures include;
- LED energy efficient lightbulbs
- Draft insulation; including door brushes, letterbox covers and draft proofing strips around doors and windows
- Radiator foils
- Chimney balloons
- Power down devices
- Hot water cylinder covers
- Shower aerators
Also during the visit the Green Doctor will check for any additional large measures that could be beneficial to you such as a replacement boiler (Owner Occupier only), cavity wall insulation and loft insulation. If a measure would prove to support you to live in a warmer home they will send the recommendation back to AgilityEco (Project Management Company of LEAP) for them to make further enquiries under the affordable warmth fund and/or other Eco funding. The larger measures can only be considered for those who are owner occupiers or private tenants (cavity wall insulation & loft insulation only) as social housing providers offer these in house.
PLEASE NOTE: there may be a charge to the owner for large measures.
