We continue to support and value our allotments, which play an important role in promoting health, well-being, food growing, and community connection.

You can use our Allotments in Trafford directory to find a local allotment or filter by location.

About our allotments

There are 34 sites throughout Trafford with over 1500 individual plots in full-time use.

Judging of allotments is undertaken in July, with sites being judged for the Best site in the Borough, Best Plot in the Borough, and many more categories. The Mayor of Trafford presents the awards and it is a well-loved tradition.

A number of sites also have community plots/groups that are always looking for people to help out. This could be a way to get practical lessons on how to cultivate an allotment and learn how to grow your own food if you haven't had an allotment before.

Selling allotment sites

We want to reassure our residents that Trafford Council has no plans to sell any allotment sites in our community.

Allotments are a valued and protected community resource, with strict legal safeguards in place to protect them. Read more about these safeguards on GOV.UK.

Allotment land can only be disposed of under strict legal conditions, such as low demand or a suitable replacement provision. Statutory allotments also cannot be sold or developed without going through a rigorous legal process.

A key action in our forthcoming allotment strategy is to increase provision, using Planning Policy to encourage new developments to include allotments.
