How the M31 Boxing Club will benefit
The facilities will be significantly improved, with a fully refurbished building including new:
- shower
- toilet
- kitchenette
- storage
Alternative provision
The Greater Manchester Youth Federation (GMYF), who operate in the building next door to the current M31 Boxing Club are allowing them to use the facility. The club can continue to deliver boxing provision for the local community while the refurbishments take place.
To prevent any equipment getting damaged during the refurbishment and ensure everyone on site’s safety, all of the equipment has been removed.
Timeframe for the refurbishment
The funding criteria set by central government means that the work needs to be completed by March 2027. This is therefore a ‘one off’ opportunity to invest in local facilities.
Work on intrusive surveys and site preparation has begun and the main contractor is due to complete their works by the summer of 2025.
In response to the feedback from M31 Boxing Club and members we have followed up with the contractor to understand if there is anyway the works can be expediated to allow the boxing club to return to the space sooner than currently expected.
Once the main contractor has handed back the building, M31 Boxing Club will be able to move back into the facilities.
Going forward
Currently M31 Boxing Club has no lease or license to occupy. To give the club comfort and clarity going forward, a lease has been discussed and agreed in principle with M31 Boxing Club.
