We subscribe to various information websites, including academic research and newspaper archive sites. Access is free of charge and is available to use in the library or at home.

You will need your library card and PIN to access some of these resources.

Business

  • Ask About Business provides a wealth of information and advice for businesses of all sizes. Services include company and sector information,  patent and intellectual property clinics and information workshops.
  • COBRA is a comprehensive and practical resource for anyone looking to start a new business, write a business plan or conduct market research.

History

  • Trafford Local Studies and Archive Centre collects and preserves material relating to the former towns and rural areas that make up the borough of Trafford. Visit the centre and use the computers to access Ancestry and the British Newspaper Archive.
  • Find My Past, the genealogy website, lets you trace your ancestry and build a family tree by researching extensive birth records, census data, newspapers, and more. Available on Trafford Library computers only.

Find My Past is a free service made possible through the partnership work of the Greater Manchester Archives and Local Studies Partnership. The service will digitise a selection of GM local authority records for inclusion on their site, and in return, will provide free access to all libraries in the Greater Manchester area for the next ten years.

Research

  • Access to Research provides access to more than 30 million academic articles. Subjects covered include the sciences, art, architecture, business, engineering, history, languages, politics, philosophy, mathematics, and more.
  • ProQuest helps you access a vast collection of scholarly materials, including dissertations, eBooks, newspapers, historical archives, etc.

Learning

  • GoCitizen is an online study resource for candidates preparing for the Life in the UK or British citizenship tests. Access the latest official study materials licensed from the Home Office, practice test questions in the same format as the official test, and more. You will need an email address to sign up for an individual account.
  • Theory Test Pro is an online simulation of the UK’s driving theory test. It contains the official practice test question bank, hazard perception video clips, and an online version of the Highway Code. You will need an email address to sign up for an individual account.

Other

  • Which? is an online magazine providing independent and impartial advice, product and service reviews, and investigations to help you make informed buying decisions. Available on Trafford Library PCs only. All our libraries stock the latest paper copy editions.

eBooks and eAudiobooks for Ukrainians

Odilo, a digital content provider, has launched a free eBook and eAudiobook app. It provides users with access to thousands of genres in 1,700 Ukrainian and 500 English versions. There's material for both children and adults.
