Traffic enforcement cameras
We have traffic enforcement cameras to help reduce congestion, improve journey times and improve air quality.
We have enforcement through fixed cameras at two locations:
- One box junction at A5063 / White City Circle roundabout (connecting Talbot Road to the A56 south bound or A5081 Trafford Road) Enforcement from Sunday 9 March.
- One box junction at the Manchester outer ring road / Junction 7 M60 / A56 (south of flyover) – Manchester bound.
Other locations are being considered.
Box junctions
Box junctions have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road. The Highway Code states that you must not enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right.
At signalled roundabouts you must not enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping. Cameras will be located at junctions.
This is the rule for all box junctions. We will enforce with cameras at the above junctions and are considering deployment at others.
Consequences
You may receive a fine also known as penalty charge notice (PCN). A PCN charge is £70. However, if you pay within 21 days of the date of the notice, the charge will be reduced to £35. If you don't pay within 28 days, the charge will go up to £105.
If you feel the Penalty Charge Notice has been wrongly issued you can appeal. Find out about the process and how to appeal online.
