In the coming months we will be moving Trafford's website over to this new (beta) site. Your feedback is welcome, helping us to improve and adapt to your needs.

Longford Park: People, Place and Nature Project

About the project

This project is made possible with a £3m grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The £6m of improvement works will improve the existing features and facilities of Longford Park. We have been working with communities, stakeholders and partners.

The works will:

  • improve access and circulation for all ages and abilities
  • enhance play, recreational and sports facilities
  • develop a major hub for physical activity and wellbeing
  • improve the park’s biodiversity and resilience to the impacts of climate change

Longford Park is the largest park in Trafford and is in a designated conservation area. It is previously the site of Longford Hall, home of John and Enriqueta Rylands.

Improvements will respect and reimagine the former Longford Hall footprint, formal gardens, kitchen gardens and designed park landscape. Celebrating the Park’s heritage is central to the project.

More about our funder

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder of the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players, we support projects that connect people and communities to heritage.

Their vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for, and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. This includes historic buildings, natural environments, collections, traditions, and more.

Heritage is anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. The National Lottery Heritage Fund believes in the power of heritage to ignite imagination, offer joy, and build pride in place.

"It is wonderful news that, thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, work can begin to improve Longford Park for local people and visitors. Regenerating and conserving public parks is a priority for the Heritage Fund as we are committed to promoting environmentally sustainable heritage for everyone to access and enjoy for years to come."
