Council Tax increase 2025-26
Part of:
How much Council Tax you pay and how it is spent
Our budgets were reduced in the financial year 2025-26. This was due to factors such as:
- demographic pressures
- an increasingly elderly population
- inflationary cost pressures affecting pay, goods and services
- a shortfall in government funding
This decision to increase Council Tax was made following consultations with stakeholders, staff and Scrutiny Members on how to fund the budget gap.
We agreed to increase Council Tax by 7.49% for the financial year 2025-26.
This consists of:
- 2.99% general increase in the relevant basic amount
- 2.0% for the Adult Social Care precept
- 2.5% additional amount agreed by the government following request for exceptional financial support
